Our Story-

I would like to thank you for taking the time of visiting our website. I hope you find things of interest.

I guess my interest in gunsmithing really started when I was about 11 and took my Daisy 25 air rifle apart and then put it back together and still had it work! From there it was doing disassembly and reassembly of firearms we owned developing my knowledge. From there I started putting together my gunsmithing library consisting of Hatcher, Dunlop, Ackley, Nonte and Howe among many others. In High School I took Machine shop and Welding. I’ve always seen myself as being more self-taught than having any kind of true formal education. When I turned 16, I apprenticed as a gunsmith for two years at a local shop before joining the US Army. From there I was trained as a National Match Armorer and also spent time with a Division IG as a weapons inspector for Combat Readiness. After separation from active duty, I went back to gunsmithing.

Tank’s Rifle Shop LLC was originally established in 1985 and to this day still remains basically a one-man shop. From the beginning I have adhered to a goal of providing quality custom work on a select group of firearms.

The shops primary focus has always been to build and customize firearms for Competition-Target shooting and Tactical-Personal Defense, but also providing general repair as well.

The shop’s philosophy has always been and continues to be the offering of high-quality modification and repair along with accessories that are proven to be both practical and durable. One advantage of concentrating on specific models has been to focus my expertise on the work I do and to offer customers the best line of equipment available.

For my long-time customers, it comes as no surprise that I also work on Handguns. But in the past that work has not been publicized and was performed very selectively, with most being done for other companies. In recent years with increased customer requests, I’ve decided to offer handgun services publicly.

When it comes to handguns I have just as much experience as with the long gun side of things. Going on over 45 years now. I originally started building 1911’s, specifically Bullseye and then gravitated into the Self Defense side of things.  Along with General Tuning and Repair of the 1911 I also have over 30 years working on the Browning Hi-Power, Smith & Wesson Revolvers and Colt DA Revolvers.

Over the last 10 years I have also been involved in teaching about gunsmithing of the 1911, Smith & Wesson Revolver and the AR-15 along with some minor consulting in both manufacturing and assembly for handguns and long guns.

All in all, this is something that I have enjoyed doing over the years and still do, being able to pass on some of the knowledge that I have accumulated along the way and provide quality service to our customers.

Best Regards,

Jon Tank
